Earlier this week, we had Clay Guida on MayorsManor (link here). He's in the UFC's semi-main event tonight, where a lot is at stake as well. The winner between he and Ben Henderson will get a lightweight title shot early next year.
Guida, a Chicago Blackhawks fan, said he was up to the task, despite being an underdog according to odds makers.
The NHRA was represented by driver Courtney Force at Thursday's Kings game and she came on MayorsManor to talk hockey and racing just prior to dropping the ceremonial first puck (link).
In a further convergence of today's big three events, while out at the drags interviewing drivers yesterday, I stumbled into a UFC conversation with funny car pilot Ron Capps.
"I'm a huge UFC fan. I watch every fight," said Capps, winner of the NHRA's last event two weeks ago in Las Vegas. "If I can't watch it online when I'm on the road, I go find a place to watch it. I don't miss one event at all, ever."
Just how big of a fan is he?
"I was going to go (to the fight in Anaheim tonight)," Capps shared. "But, with the forecast of rain, we didn't know if we'd get out of here in time."
And like most fans hyped up for tonight, he has his eyes set on the top two fights.
"Clay Guida is one of my favorites," said Capps.
Yet, when things turned towards the main event, he was making much bolder statements...
"I've been telling everybody that the Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos fight will be the fight of the century, without a doubt. It's two of the baddest, the biggest and the best strikers - at that size, with those small gloves - I think it will the best fight UFC has had in at least a decade."
If you saw some of my tweets from the UFC press conference earlier this week, Dos Santos said the fight will be over in the fourth round and UFC President Dana White said it won't go the distance - and he was just hoping it lasts longer than one round.
We shall see.
UFC on Fox tonight at 6pm (I'll have live tweets from the event), then the Kings game at 7:30 (with the usual coverage across all MayorsManor related platforms), then you can catch Capps in action tomorrow at the drags - tickets are still available - and they'll have tape delayed coverage of the NHRA Finals on ESPN 2 tomorrow night.
