Audio: Coach Darryl Sutter post-game comments vs CBJ

Kings coach Darryl Sutter usually provides some great quotes during his post-game pressers. Last night wasn't one of them. Following his team's disappointing loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, few Sutterisms were offered up. Basically, he's looking for a better effort and a more focused game from just about everybody except goalie Jonathan Bernier. Take a listen...

Sean O'Donnell on his former teammate Jeff Carter

Thanks to everybody who listened in to MayorsManor LIVE tonight. Sorry we ran out of time before we could get to all of the live calls.

Below is the full clip from veteran NHL defenseman Sean O'Donnell, where he answers questions about his former teammates, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards.

Of course, O'Donnell has played over 1,100 games in the NHL, after starting his career with the LA Kings. He's gone on to play for several other organizations, including the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks. O'Donnell also won the Stanley Cup in 2007 and is the former captain of he Minnesota Wild. Needless to say, he has the resume to back up what he says here...

If you missed tonight's full episode, including a 'surprise' call from Kings prospect Ray Kaunisto (of the Manchester Monarchs), comments from Ian Laperriere of the Philadelphia Flyers and others - click here to listen to the replay. It's about as much NHL trade talk as you can handle.

For some bonus coverage, here's a conversation with Jim Fox from earlier today where he addresses the Dustin Brown trade rumors. Is he likely to be dealt? See what Fox has to say.

Mike Richards over Philly, building something special in LA

Mike Richards was pressed about the negative stories in Philadelphia when he first arrived in Los Angeles last summer. At the time, he answered every question posed to him. When training camp began a few months later, it was time to turn the page and talk about the LA Kings. Now, with the addition of Jeff Carter - his best friend and former Flyers teammate - he was asked about things again today. This time around, he's ready to move forward. Take a listen, here's a brief clip from this morning's media scrum...

If you've never read it, here's the exclusive piece we did with Ian Laperriere at the time of the trade, he talks about the rumored feud between Richards and Chris Pronger.

Plenty more quotes from other players following the a.m. skate will be posting shortly.

Also, we'll provide live notes from Carter's 'Welcome to LA' meeting at 2:45 pm this afternoon. Follow along on the twitter/facebook link below.

LA 3, TB 1: Post-game audio from Kings' Kyle Clifford

Kyle Clifford has been on a little bit of a roll the past few weeks and he kept things moving right along tonight in Tampa Bay - picking up his third goal in the last 12 games. It stood as the game winner in a 3-1 defeat of the Lightning. Back in the locker room, he was asked about his performance tonight and then, in a somewhat out-of-left field question, he was asked about Brian Campbell of the Panthers. Sure, LA is playing Florida next. However, he's not somebody that Clifford would have had much experience against (three games last year, once this season). Listen to his thoughts from after the game...

LA def TB 3-1, post-game audio from coach Darryl Sutter

In his post-game conversation with the media in Tampa Bay, Kings coach Darryl Sutter discussed the importance of getting the first goal, having a young hockey team, the play of Jonathan Quick and more. Take a listen...

The two best three-word Sutterism of the night may have been 'broken stick goal' (in reference to Steven Stamkos scoring the Lightning's lone goal) and 'just move on' (regarding last Saturday's tough loss in Carolina).

What I've learned so far... by LA Kings Brad Richardson

Brad Richardson chirping (photo: M. Zampelli)
Like the LA Kings, the 'What I've learned so far' series has had the last few days off - but, it's back today!

Recently, we've heard some interesting comments from Drew Doughty, Kevin Westgarth, Ethan Moreau and several others.

Now, it's time for the multi-purpose man, Brad Richardson, to step up and take a swing. The crafty forward is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades and coach Terry Murray has no qualms about plugging him in just about anywhere - including at least a few games on all four lines last year.

With the first month of the new season now in the books, what has Richardson learned so far...

About Dustin Brown - "He's really not as quiet as a lot of people think. I don't know if people think that because he's kind of shy. But, once you get to know him, he's pretty witty and very funny."

About Rob Scuderi - "I've learned that he's not changing his style. He's the worst dresser on the team and (that award) isn't going anywhere."

About Anze Kopitar - "His golf game has come a long way. He likes golf a lot and he's come a long way. We played the other day and it was the best round I've ever seen him play."

Trevor Lewis dishes on his new roommate - Mike Richards

When a new guy joins a team some of the first questions that need to be answered are what's his number and what's his nickname?

For Mike Richards, the move to LA has involved a change in both.

He left his familiar #18 behind in Philadelphia and now sports #10 with the Kings. As for the nickname, well - it's been a work in progress, largely because his teammates were already using 'Richie' for Brad Richardson.

After practice today, second-year center Trevor Lewis shed a little light on the situation. He also spoke about what it's been like to share a room with Richards on the road so far this season, as well as a few other changes he's noticed about this year's Kings team...

As for Lewis, last year many thought his nickname of 'Elvis' came from sharing a room with The Colonel (Kyle Clifford). However, it's actually a nod to his birthday, January 8th - yes, the same as Elvis.

Back to Richards...if it were up to me, I would have gone with something like 'trout' or 'bass' - something fishing related. Nobody asked though.

And contrary to any rumors out there, no Willie Mitchell doesn't have his own set of nicknames for Richards - like 'angel eyes' or 'pooh bear' - despite their admitted bromance.

Jack Johnson Enjoys Playing the East

Kings defenseman Jack Johnson seems to agree with most fans, the NHL schedule needs a little more balance.

Hear what he had to say when asked if it he liked having the extra days off this week to prepare for a team like Tampa Bay, an Eastern Conference opponent they don't see very often...

LA vs TB Game Preview w/ Wayne Simmonds

Through 11 games so far this season Kings forward Wayne Simmonds has six points, identical to where he was last year at the same marker.

Later tonight he'll be facing the Lightning, a team he hasn't seen very often in his career. In the only match-up last season between LA and Tampa Bay he had zero points and 14 penalty minutes, including a 10 minute misconduct.

Here's a few thoughts from Wayne regarding the match-up:

Question: The Kings are off to a great start this season, especially at home. What do you attribute the success too so far?

[note: if the audio does not play in your browser, click the twaud.io logo to play in a separate window]

Question: Although the rest of the lines have been in flux, your line has been pretty much intact. How do you feel things are coming together with Michal Handzus and Alexei Ponikarovsky after 11 games?

Question: Last year's game in Tampa featured some controversy.  They thought they scored in overtime to win, only to have the goal disallowed and then the Kings came back to win in the shootout.  Do you think the Lightning will have that in the back of their mind tonight or is it all in the past when a new season starts?
