For a team that's only 20 years old, it was more than 25 years in the making.
No team had come back from being down four goals in the playoffs since Minnesota clawed their way to a 5-4 victory over Chicago on April 28, 1985.
Until the Sharks last night.
Meanwhile, the line of Kyle Clifford, Brad Richardson and Wayne Simmonds was again impressive, picking up two goals.
Kevin Westgarth and Dustin Penner picked up a point.
Ryan Smyth scored a goal.
Yet, the Kings gave up five goals in the second period. FIVE!
Which leaves two questions to ponder today...
One, which playoff loss was worse - game three in 1998 or last night? Back in '98 at the Forum, the St. Louis Blues scored four goals on a five minute power play. Horrific!
Two, should Jonathan Bernier make his NHL post-season debut tomorrow night?

I clap my hands and say THIS is going to be a great day!

Why no timeout after it was 5-4? I'm very conservative when it comes to using a timeout, but supposedly Murray likes to do so and I'm still wondering why he didn't. Look, it didn't work for San Jose in the 1st period. But clearly the Kings were not right when they got back within 1 a second time in the same period. it could not have hurt and may have prevented the tying goal.
ReplyDelete#1- I'd say last nights loss was worse.
ReplyDelete#2- NO!!!! Quickie got us here and you can't honestly say that even 1 of those goals was a "Weak" goal. He had a Defensive unit that was running around like they didn't know who to cover. Quickie in net for game 4!!!!!!!
My $.02.......
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't really matter who is between the pipes. It's all up to the five idiots in front of the goalie. That was proven Tuesday evening in front of a sell out and enthusiastic crowd of fans (me being one of them).
In my 43 years I have never seen any game so poorly played.....regardless of the teams. That was a total breakdown of team play, both offense and defense. Yes, we can all sit here and pull out the culprit(s) but one point still remains. We have been so close on two games and dominant on the other. We have what it takes to beat the Sharks.

In closing....
ReplyDeleteYears ago we had the "Miracle on Manchester". A victory of glorious proportions....
Not too long ago there was the "Stunner At Staples" over the despised Red Wings.....
And now we are saddled with the "Failure On Figueroa".....that will haunt us until we somehow drag that damned cup home.....
