Think About This...

It's Thursday, so I know you all wish it was 24 hours from now...while you're sitting around waiting for your weekend to begin, in honor of the Game 7s this week, here are 7 things to think about today (besides the fact that I was able to make two baseball references in an article about hockey):

*  The Kings have been off work now for 18 days, yet they moved up in the draft last night.  With Montreal winning (8th seed in the East), the Canadiens will now draft later.  This has pushed the Kings up to #19 now, from #22 originally.  That's the little silver lining for all you Cammi fans who were steamed watching him advance another round. Or did you just accept it because you were happy Sid was eliminated?

* Manchester opened their third round series with Hershey last night and things didn't go so well.  Former first round draft pick Jonathan Bernier gave up four goals - not the norm for him this season.  One of the guys probably joining Bernier in LA next season, Andrei Loktionov, scored one of the Monarchs two goals in the loss.  Assisting on the goal was a guy that possibly could be joining them in LA next year, Kyle Clifford (his first pro point).  KC was a coach's pick as MVP of the prospects camp last September and he plans on making a strong push to become a King this fall.  He's a tough-as-nails winger and dropped the gloves late in the first period, another first in his pro career.  Now can he pick up his first goal when the Monarchs skate in game two tomorrow night?

* One more note on the Monarchs...Bud Holloway’s point-streak came to an end...he had 11 points (6g-5a=11pts) in the first 10 games of the post-season.  He also has tied the record for most game-winning-goals in a single playoff year.  Can he rebound on Friday?

* Still looking for that perfect Drew Doughty jersey for yourself or a special friend?  Well, the NHLPA may have just the thing for you.  Click here to buy a GAME USED Olympic jersey.  Bidding ends 5/18.

* Ryan Kesler is a beast.  You can hate the Canucks all you want.  But, he is a helluva player.  Team USA is in BIG, BIG trouble at the Hockey World Championships over in Germany.  Is it too late for him to get over there and help out?

* The New York Times reported an executive with the Mets recently met with Islanders owner Charles Wang about building an arena in Queens (near Citi Field) and relocating the Islanders.  Assuming they don't change their name...while it wouldn't as bad as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim...I call foul on both.  OC isn't LA and most people aren't thinking Queens when they say Long Island.

* Make sure you have your DVRs set...the NHL Network is covering this year's Memorial Cup (essentially, the Stanley Cup for junior hockey).  Play begins tomorrow at 5pm PST with a game featuring last season's #1 draft pick by the Kings - Brayden Schenn.  Closing the loop on some points made at the top of this article, he's another player expected to challenge for a roster spot on next year's Kings team.  Also of note, his Wheat Kings will be wearing special jerseys in the opening game, which will be auctioned off later this month.  Click the link to take a peek - let's just say the jerseys are...um...interesting looking.
