ASG 2012: Johnson, Westgarth, Penner take on The Mayor

Later tonight, Daniel Alfredsson and Zdeno Chara will draft their All-Star teams from a group of 38 NHL players, live on TV. After watching the inaugural event last season, it definitely put a unique twist on things. No other sport does such a thing. And for a change, that's a good thing for the NHL.

By now, you've probably already read the mock draft we did with Alfredsson earlier this week. Here, we turn to a few of the Kings players.

First up, Jack Johnson. The rules in drafting our teams were simple. Jonathan Quick was ineligible and we alternated selections, with Johnson getting the first pick. Here's how it went down...

Next up was Dustin Penner, who apparently wanted to sneak in as many of his former Ducks teammates as possible...

After we finished picking the above teams, Penner asked - "Are we going to put that on NHL 12 and then have somebody play it? Five-on-five, no line changes. I'd like to see who wins, who picked the better team."

Hmmm, hadn't thought about that one.  Looks like we'll have to add a new wrinkle for next year.

Moving right along, we'll wrap things up with Kevin Westgarth...

Like Penner's choice of Byfuglien on D, Westgarth at first seemed to be coming out of left field with his goalie choice. Then he offered an explanation for the Elliot pick, "He's a friend of a friend. He's actually Davis' [Drewiske] cousin-in-law. He married his cousin. So, I guess they're cousins now, right?"

I don't know, are they?

I'm too busy trying to figure out how Phaneuf ended up on two of my three teams.
